Vesuvius is the symbol of Naples and one of the largest active volcanoes in the world; it has a typical truncated cone shape whose highest point reaches 1,277 m above sea level. The crater currently has a diameter of 450 m and a depth of 300 m.
The imposing volcanic mountain that dominates the Gulf and the city from above can be reached up to an altitude of 1,000 m by bus.
The visit then continues on foot with authorised mountain guides to the crater.
